You make a good point. I've always been drawn to texts that have a strong plot. I think it was Stephen King who pointed out that whatever you read into or draw out of Moby Dick, the core of the book remains "This is what happened to Ishmael and the crew of the Pequod."

My own stories are largely plot-driven because for me the interest is in seeing what the characters would do in a given situation.

It's easier with fanfiction because the characters already exist. So I create the situation, then decide which characters to put into it. Always fun to imagine Tony Stark and Arthur Weasley tinkering away in Arthurs' shed while Molly and Pepper gossip, drink tea and wait for the inevitable explosion!
