An occasional well-timed, well-executed and well-deserved bollocking - without the time-wasting and ineffectual groundings and sanctions too many parents fall back on - is a wake-up call for teens who have cocked something up too badly for it to be let pass. A telling off is also a form of communication, and if done properly, for the right reasons, also shows you are taking notice and that you care.
