You are, of course, entitled to your view, and under different circumstances there would be more validity to it. However, you're talking about the wrong President - it was Trump that was 'unhinged'.
That apart, in talking about peace negotiations you forget the lessons of the 1930s. Putin would only enter negotiations if they guaranteed him a substantial chunk of Ukrainian territory as the price of ceasing fire. He would also demand the demilitarisation of the rest of Ukraine so that he could invade it at leisure in a year or so. His aim is to reverse the territorial losses the old Soviet Union underwent in 1989-90. Including, I have no doubt, the Eastern portion of Germany.
Things are now reaching a pitch where even driving Russian troops back over the Ukrainian border will not stop the war. Putin has committed himself too deeply, as Hitler did. It is only a matter of time before a Russian general or ranking government member clandestinely approaches NATO requesting support for a coup. This is, of course, the ultimate aim of the West. Russia as a client state and a buffer against an increasingly aggressive China.
