Women need to move forward. The error lies in dragging men forward with them when men need to go back.
Back to discipline:
"There we met with famous men
Set in office o'er us;
And they beat on us with rods -
Faithfully with many rods -
Daily beat us on with rods,
For the love they bore us! " (Kipling)
We need those famous men. Men who taught us to turn fear of the rod into self-discipline, self-confidence and self-worth.
Back to proper competition:
"There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night —
Ten to make and the match to win —
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! play up! and play the game!" " (Newbolt)
Where winning matters less than fair play and trying your best.
Back to knowing that you matter, whatever your role "They also serve who only stand and wait" (Milton)
And always, to be a gentleman! "Oxfords, not brogues!"
