Why am I beginning to associate emigration/immigration with what used to be called 'lack of moral fibre'?

When a hurricane or tornado hits a a town or city in the US the people, by and large, mourn their dead and then roll their sleeves up and rebuild. In the UK, we famously 'Keep Calm and Carry On', whatever happens.

So how come other nations are apparently incapable of doing the same? I see healthy men of military age running away from wars in their own countries -surely this is nothing more than cowardice? Running to another country in time of disaster is leaving your own to fall apart -unacceptable behaviour as far as I am concerned.

If this is the calibre of people desperate to get into the US or Europe, then we absolutely do not need them!
