Well, I know who 'Star Trek' wasnt' speaking to - Brtish schoolboys! When I first saw it, it was shown on the BBC in the Saturday evening slot traditionally reserved for 'Doctor Who'. While the Doctor and companions got a lot of us Brit kids into SF and science generally, the antics of 'Captain Snog' and crew put a great many right off! The playground consensus was that one Dalek or Cyberman would have gone through the 'Enterprise' and crew like a hot knife through butter. Typical BBC, never quite got their heads round SF!
I remember 'The Man From UNCLE' with some affection, though of course I never noticed what you did. I do remember my mother planting herself firmly and immovably in front of any and every espisode of 'The Saint', purely because of Roger Moore! She was not, I am informed, the only housewife to do so by a long chalk!
I did once write a fan-fiction in which Simon Templar, James Bond, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin got involved in dirty doings in Monte Carlo. Fortunately, Minerva MacGonagall (in a Chanel trouser-suit) was there to keep them all in order!
