Was never much of a fan of sitcoms. to be honest. Pretty much because my parents' taste ran mostly to anything starring Terry Scott and June Whitfield. To utter blasphemy, I never found anything remotely funny in either Steptoe & Son or Til Death Us Do Part.
I remember Please, Sir! with some affection. Other personal favourites included All Gas and Gaiters and Oh, Brother! Dads' Army I recall fondly, as I do one of those 'Series No Longer To Be Named' 'Allo, 'Allo! Especially since older family members were wont to admit that both programmes were far more historically accurate than many documentaries! Of course, anyone who, like myself, has curmudgeonly tendencies, was bound to enjoy One Foot in the Grave!
As to the rest, as a teenager I enjoyed The Goodies, as well as Monty Python. Fawlty Towers was patchy, and could have done with someone to rein Cleese in occasionally. My middle-class upbringng shows in my preference for The Two Ronnies over Morecambe & Wise. Dave Allen, in his various shows, was always a delight, as was Les Dawson. In later years, Jasper Carrot had his moments as well.
For more recent stuff, the first couple of series of Ghosts were enjoyable, but it's gone downhill now. Other than that, only Peter Kays' Car Share has worked for me recently. Comedy has just gone bland.
