Two theories of history, Conspiracy and Cock-Up. One believes that behind every historical event there is or was a group of masterminds with a clear agenda. The other accepts that mostly, people just react to situations without a clue as to the consequences. Guess which I favour?

There's no plan except "We have to win the next election, any way we can." It never occurs to them that they could destroy democracy because they are convinced that any honest democratic process could only result in them winning anyway!
