Tory bullshit.
My wife and I are pensioners. We clear £2 495 a month after tax. We don't need a Fuel Allowance. One woman who was bellyaching on the Beeb website is still, at the age of 70, paying an £800 a month mortgage! Anyone who's still paying a mortgage at 70 has made some bad decisions that are nothing to do with the government! The standard State Pension is £880 or so every four weeks and you get it over and above any occupational pension. If you were stupid enough not to downsize after the kids left home, or not to have a modern boiler, cooker, windows etc fitted before you retired, then you deserve all you get. If you are that short, you can apply for Pension Credit and you'll get your Fuel Allowance. People do have a responsibility to make sensble arrangements for retirement and it was farcical to see wealthy pensioners on large occupational and private pensioners getting a Winter Fuel Allowance as they jetted off to their villa in Spain for the winter!
There are farmers in my family. There is no such thing as a poor farmer. If they donlt want to pay the Inheritance Tax, they'll do what farmers have been doing for years to dodge land taxes: sell some land to a neighbour for pennies, then rent it back from them for practically nothing. Most of their business is done in cash, and goes nowhere near the books in case thay have to pay tax on their actual income. They're up to, in short, every dodge in the book!
Illegal mmigrants have been crossing the Channel in small boats since the 1960s. There are only two ways to stop them. One is to slash the bureauracy so they know that all they can expect is to be returned to where they came from within a couple of days. The other is to patrol the Channel with frigates who have standing orders to sink any boat that doesn't turn around when ordered. I don't see either of these happening, so the boats are going to keep on coming! Unless we start sending them off to those uninhabited islands off the coast of Scotland with a packet of seeds and a spade each! It is not a new issue and it is one which cannot be resolved short of drastically inhumane methods.
Also, the Election only happened in July, FFS! The PMs name is Starmer, not Dumbledore! There is no magic wand, these things take time. Admittedly, I'd have preferred a 60% tax bracket on people earning more than £50K a year and a higher rate of Corporation Tax. But that's ideology, like taxing the churches.
