Too Good For God
Yog-Sothoth Neblod Zinn
I’m not talking about Christians here, or all the horrible things assorted Churches have done to people over the centuries. People do unpleasant things to other people all the time, and with different justifications. Religion is just one among many. We’re a quarrelsome bunch and that’s all there is to it.
My problem is with God, or rather the God represented to us by Christian teachings and theology. He is not a very nice person.
Let me be clear. I have no basic objection to the idea of a God or gods. Anything is possible, after all. I do object, however, to being called upon to bow down before or worship any being, no matter how powerful. If there is a Creator or First Cause who is conscious or intelligent, then They have no need for my worship or obedience. They have much bigger fish to fry and may well be either completely unaware of humanitys’ existence or utterly indifferent to it. On the other hand, a God small enough to need or want the worship and obedience of lesser beings hardly merits the term ‘God’ at all. Such a being more closely resembles the petty gods of Greek, Egyptian, Norse and other pagan pantheons. Metahumans with a penchant for throwing their superpowered weight about.
