This is not so much a review as a rambling, loosely-put-together essay (I used to be a lecturer).

You begin with Star Wars, which, BTW, owes precisely nothing to Seven Samurai but a good deal to Arthurian and Greek myth as well as LOTR. Then you say a bit about Rebel Moon. Then you write an entire paragraph in brackets (WTF?) about a minor point of interest only for trivia quizzers. Then a couple of relevant paragraphs. Then a swipe at comic books and their writers -obviously lower life-forms. Then a spot of highbrow critic bellyaching about films that don't have a 'serious' point to make. Then a swipe at people who make films solely to entertain, Then the mandatory PC bit to show your woke credentials. Then another hymn in praise of Star Wars -which was never that great. Then some wobbling on about nihilism and about how immature Snyder is. Then another swipe at comics before dismissing the film as meaningless.

You could have done it all with half the word-count and ended up looking less of a pretentious snob.

Critics such as yourself should stick to the highbrow stuff and leave the popcorn films to the popcorn-munching plebs who come to the cinema for spectacle. You're looking for things that aren't there, were never meant to be there and which the intended audience wouldn't recognise or understand.

Rebel Moon was made with the sole purpose of making shedloads of money at the box-office entertaining people wearing MAGA hats or Millwall scarves. It's not aimed at or intended to please the likes of us, and your review will make no difference to the target audience, who won't even read it. I'll never watch it and I would certainly never consider reviewing it, any more than a serious literary critic would ever review anything I wrote. Or if they did, I'd laugh my duck off!
