These basic issues are universal. In other countries they are bringing about a slide to the Right. In the UK, we got a move to the Left (despite everything Reform UK threw at us). That was because Sir Keir Starmer and his party campaigned on issues that mattered: the economy, housing, public services, the NHS, our crumbling infrastructure and so on. There was an almost total and very refreshing lack of identity politics in the Labour campaign, and the result was a 400-seat majority, followed by a 'tax and spend' budget of the kind we've been needing since Covid.
I know it's considered blasphemy to suggest that any American, even a politician, should take a scrap of notice of what happens outside the US, much less draw lessons therefrom, but Ms Harris and the Democrats might have learned something from the UK election! If they'd bothered to take a look.
