There's a level of doubt about this translation. The Psalm referred to uses a different word (azavthani) for 'forsaken', for instance. Equally, we are unsure whether Yeshu'a was speaking Aramaic or Hebrew at the time. Because the word sabacthani apparently carries an additional meaning of 'kept' in the sense of 'set aside for a purpose'. So the cry could be translated as "is this why you kept me?" or 'is this my purpose?". A translation that positions Yeshu'a as a human being rather than an avatar.
