There is no Left in America, only hard Right and extreme Right.

Here in the UK, the Left lost it when Tony Blair decided to go for the middle-class vote and made the Labour Party about social, rather than economic, reform.

Same-sex marriage and diversity and inclusion are all very nice, but not really what was and is needed.

What Blair should have done and didn't, what Starmer ought to do and won't, is reverse Thatcherism. We need utilities renationalised, anti Union legislation repealed, the Super Tax band reintroduced, the Bank of England under government control, Council Housing and student grants.

Until the economic inequalities are reduced and until capitalism is kept on a short leash or regulation, the social problems won't go away.
