There is always the old trope of the test that is supposed to be failed. Tolkien used this in his version of the creation myth, the Ainulindale. There, the egostistcal Ainu Melkor tries to change the Great Music to suit his own ideas, but only succeeds in making the whole Music more glorious.. So it can be argued that all the great stories in the Bible, the deeds of Moses, the wisdom of Solomon, the heroism of Samson, the sacrifice of Yeshua, all redounding as they do to the greater glory of God, could not have happened unless the fruit had been taken.
