The whole mess stems from Britain needing the Rothschilds' money and so making a promise to the Zionists that broke the promises T E Lawrence and others made to the Arabs who helped the fight the Ottomans.

But it also stems from Zionism itself. A lot of Diaspora Jews would hve welcomed the idea of a Jewish homeland. The Rothschilds and others from the later 17th to the early 19th Century would have been perfectly capable of purchasing substantial and largely uninhabited territories in Canada or Australia for this purpose. But the Zionists - a vocal and influential minority, but a minority nonetheless -insisted any Jwsih home land could only be in Palestine.

Which all goes to show the folly of listening only to those who shout loudest and making political decisions based on ideals and emotions rather than practical common sense!
