We lost our last cat — Luna — in the Spring. She was 14 years old and had been fine. But on that day, she’d not been herself. We weren’t unduly worried, cats have their off days too, but thought that if she wasn’t better by the next day, we’d run up to the vets with her. That night, she climbed up on the bed and lay between us -a thing she only usually did on cold winter nights. We thought she just wanted some company, so we made a fuss of her, which she enjoyed, then went to sleep. When we woke up in the morning, she was still between us, but had passed peacefully in her sleep. There are worse ways to go.

Anyway, for the first time in a long while, we were without a pet. Instead of immediately looking for a new one, we decided that we’d wait until we’d had our holiday. In the meantime, of course, we had to look after Cupcake, the Demon Hamster, for our daughter. Check out Two Nights of the Hamster for how that worked out!

Then of course, the holiday was a disaster, and other things happened, which I’ve recounted in That Was The Week That Wasn’t. We needed a perk up! So I went online to Coventry Cats Protection, where I found kittens available — a litter of four. I filled in the ‘expression of interest’ form and didn’t expect to hear back — cute kitties go fast, right?
