The issue with idealism is the potential drift into solipsism. The problem with physicalism is the potential drift ito nihilism. Neither is a useful viewpoint.

For all we know, consciousness could be the Fifth Force.

In any event, it's difficult to impossible to think about consciousness objectively, because it's all subjective.
