The irritating thing, and I've remarked on this before, is that Crystal Skull, and by the sound of it, Dial of Destiny, would be perfectly serviceable plots/films without Indiana Jones. The well-known character (and venerable actor) have simply been tacked on in the hope of squeezing out a few extra 'fan-dollars'. Something they could have done better, given the plots, by replacing Indy with Lara. Also as I've said before, they would make ideal Doc Savage plots. There would also have been nothing wrong with allowing Ms Waller-Bridge to carry the action while placing Mr Ford in a 'grand old man' advisor/mentor role from his leather armchair. Much more improtantly, they could have been used as vehicles to launch or showcase stars in the making - perhaps even non-white ones?.

However, while the industry remains colossally risk-averse, we will continue to see old material retreaded with geriatric performers while a younger generation must hope for voice roles in video games!
