The first iteration is organic intelligence - subject to the need to consume, to reproduce, and attempt to find identity and understanding while plagued by visceral emotions.

The second iteration is machine intelligence (AI or post-human). Still required to consume, but more effificiently. Able to reproduce, but more able to ensure that its' offspring are better than itself. Still seeking identity and understanding, but without the problem of visceral emotion.

The third iteration is non-material intelligence. Pure thought or energy. Consumption 100% efficient. Immortal and able to self-improve, so that reproduction is unnecessary. Still seeking identity and understanding.

The final iteration is the realisation that identity and understanding are equally absurd in the face of the incomprehensible and impersonal Universe. To shed both, to reject action and ego and simply exist, as the Universe does.
