The British have always been good at this sort of thing. The descendants of these Tudor bowmen were the Naploeonic War infantry who were capable of firing up to four rounds a minute from a 4.5kg 1.5m, muzzle-loading Land Pattern Musket ('Brown Bess'). I shudder to think what that did to their bodies!
