That's not strictly the point I was making.

Look, I'm not saying there isn't a designer, because I don't know whether there is none or not -the question remains unanswered.

The issue is whether or not we are badly-designed by intention, or whether we are intentionally-designed at all.

Your article uses the analogy of a progammer writing code and creating everything in his universe according to theirfancy or purpose. I say, what if the Programmer simply wrote a base code that proceeded to write more code itself? Were they experimenting to see what would be produced? Or were they looking to produce something else, and we are just an unexpected glitch or trash code left behind?

The fact is that at the sub-atomic, quantum level everything seems orderly and precise to a degree that makes assumptions of randomness problematic. But as quantum physics gives way to classical physics, physics gives way to chemistry, chemistry to organic chemistry, organic chemuistry to biology and so on, orderliness is lost and randomness and error increases. So either this process is part of the plan, or an unforeseen and uncontrolled consequence.

In either case, it casts doubt on the idea of a Creator or First Cause who is perfect, omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent and cares for us or is in any way aware of us.

A perfect being could not create an imperfect Universe, since to do so would ipso facto render said being imperfect.

An omniscient being would know what was going to happen, and an omnipotent one could correct them. If they do not know, they are not omniscient. If they know but cannot correct, they are not omnipotent. If they know and could correct, but choose not to, they are not benevolent and do not care for us.

It may even be that they are concentrating on other aspects of their creation and are not even aware we exist.

I am not challenging the existence of an intelligent First Cause per se. Merely the assumption that we are the end product, or even a part of or in any way relevant to, whatever they might be trying to achieve. This, short of universal and unambiguous revelation, outside of human social, historical and cultural constructs and contexts, is and will remain an unknown. Which is why I will not worship, and why I will continue to behave and conduct my life according to principles which I consider to be exclusively human in origin, even if those who originally proposed them pretended to a Divine origin for them.
