That word 'girl' says it all! It no more means woman than boy means man. Girls and boys are what women and men are before life grabs them by the scruff and drags them to place where they are responsible for their actions and answerable for themselves and to others. In order to escape this, some people refuse to 'grow up' and continue 'boyish' or 'girlish' behaviour throughout their lives.

Such people are illustrated by the character of Harold Skimpole, in Dickens' Bleak House. An unrepentant sponger, con-man and backstabber who hides everything behind the pose of being 'a child' who understands nothing about life and people. I suspect that the 'girl' pose is Dylan Mulvaneys' excuse to behave any which way and avoid adult responsibility.

As to emptying guns into packs of beer, what else can one reasonably do with American 'beer'? Certainly drinking it is at best an unrewarding experience (for an Englishman), and best described as 'love in a punt'!
