Sprituality is the uneanted child of intellect and imagination. Imagination is the faculty of envisioning that which does not yet exist and intellect the means by which it is brough into existence. Thus we become the 'tool-making animal' - the truest and simplest defiition of 'human'.

But with intellect comes curiosity and when that curiosity expanded beyond the bounds of the simple, empirical, means of survival, imagination jumped in with answers that, rather than not yet existing, never had and never could exist. This was the origin of spirituality, which gave rise to religion, which in turn gave rise to politics and with politics came war, oppression, genocide, misandry, misogyny, racism and around 800 of the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to.

We got too clever for our evolutionary niche and now we're paying the price!
