Sorry, but if Deadpool is your measure of dark and gritty story-telling, then I hsve to disagree. That's cartoon violence, albeit in CGI. I've no idea how old you are, but I can recall shows like The Untouchables (1960s version), The Sweeney, the original The Professionals, Softly, Softly, Callan and other 60s and 70s programmes that were far more gritty and where the violence was more disturbing because it was so low-key, so realistic and so casual. These big, overblown brawls and gore-splatters in modern shows like the reboots of SWAT and Hawai'i Five-0 are too theatrical and artificial. Here in the UK we get more sex and nudty than we used to, but none of the old, cold-blooded, murderous violence. Not that I'm complaining!
