"Someone has to make the hard decisions." That's the mantra that gets the psychopath promoted. That's what Generals in rooms full of maps say when some officer has coldly ordered his men to achieve an objective that costs most of them their lives. That's what shareholders say when a CEO takes away the livelihoods of a thousand employees and destroys the community they live in, just so the dividend is a little higher this year. It's what politicians say when their leader rips the heart out of a countrys' economy and culture, destroys lives, families and communities in the service of pure ideology.

But when the bastards say 'hard', they donlt mean 'difficult', they mean 'ruthless'. Because an ordinary person can make a difficult decision, balancing the needs of the few against that of the many, the immediate discomfort against the long-term benefit, ideals against pragmatism. But to take the self-centred and ruthless decision requires a psychopathic mindset.
