My ancestors - Yorkshire coalminers - had a very similar life to your ancestors in many ways. Except they had a load of evil bastards telling them that they were free! Right! Free to work like a dog and die young, or not work and starve! Then as soon as the miners managed to get decent living wages and better working conditions, they closed the pits down! So hundreds of thousands of people are living in old pit towns and villages. No proper jobs, no hope and your vote isn't worth shit! Disconnected, disaffected, disenfranchised and despised.

So don't go telling me I can't empathise, OK? We should be on the same side!
