So I took my 85-year-ol mother to the doctors recently. It's a Heath Centre, so you never know quite who you're going to see. Fortunately, we get one of the best doctors at the Centre. She gives Mum a thorough going-over, books some bloods, and promises to look through the numerous medications Mum has been on for years. On the way home, I ask "What did you think of the doctor?"

"Dont like her."

"Why not?"

"She's Black."

"That's not an excuse! That's not even a reason! She's about the best doctor there, and she gave you a proper examination. She even took her mask off so you could hear her better!"

"Oh, I know, she's very good, but.... I know it sounds a bit racist...."

"It is racist! And not just a bit!"

"I don't mean it to be. I'm just....It's just....You know!"

No, I don't. And neither, Mother Dear, do you! You're racist and you honestly don't know why!

How the Hell do you get through to someone who doesn't even know, or have, a reason for their attitude!
