Smoke and mirrors. Because politics is a middle-class game. Because middle-class people fear for their lifestyles if real economic changes happen. But they still know that something is wrong. So they salve their consciences by diving down the rabbit-holes of equality and diversity, identity politics. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ rights, etc. etc. While the right laughs and carries on leeching away all the wealth.

What is needed, and what most working-class people want, even if the American ones won't admit it. is a fairer distribution of wealth. A decent income and a decent lifestyle for everyone would erase most prejudices. Failing that, it's about making the best of it by ensuring that somebody, somewhere is somehow worse off than you are.
