Revolutions start in the middle classes. Cromwell was a gentleman, Lenin was middle class, as were Robespierre and Washington.
I cannot, off the top of my head, recall an actual working class revolution that wasn't, at some point, appropritated by middle-class leaders.
Quite generally, the lower classes are far too busy living from day to day to organise a successful revolutionary campaign. All they get is 'meet the new boss, same as the old boss!"
