Only those with sufficient knowledge, intelligence and confidence to grasp the ideas laid out here.
The ignorant and uneducated, aware of science only as the source of the technologies they use daily, are entirely happy with the notion of a cantankerous old gentleman who brought everything into being by fiat.
Those who know better, but lack the confidence to live in a Universe without goal or meaning will take the metaphysical route. This, as the writer indicates, is implicitly atheistic in that it does away with personalised, agenda-driven God in favour of The Force (or something like it), which portrays virtuous behaviour as beneficial to the Universe as a whole as well as the individual.
Outright atheism not only requires intelligence and knowledge, but a certain degree of bloody-mindedness. To live well and benevolently in the face of an utter lack of meaning and purpose can be challenging, if only becuase you know that ultimately nobody, anywhere, really gives a damn for more than five minutes. Result is that you end up Godlike yourself -ie a cantankerous old gentleman!
