Only clever people look for meaning in their lives. Most people just want food, warmth, shelter and sex. Oh, and somebody to tell them what to do.

Pace HYDRA, it's not that people can't be trusted with freedom. It's that most of them don't have a clue what to do with it! So they rally ound someoen who can tell them what to think and what to do.

Unfortunately, near-unlimited access to uncontrolled information sources like the internet, social media ad privately-owned 'news' organisations has left too many prey to populist attention-seekers and greedy 'lifestyle gurus'.

Not a loss of meaning, just a loss of control.
