One of the things I always admired about Bill is that you can take almost any of his plays, recast and reset them into any milieu and culture, and they still work!

Shakespeare is hugely popular in Japan, where as well as traditional Western-style productions and modern dress ones, there have been Kabuki and Noh style productons of some of the plays. Clearly, even in Japan, which is in so many ways a different culture, the Bards' themes are understood and appreciated.

You could take Romeo and Juliet, and make one of the families black, the other white, and see how relevant the idea still is. You could recast Othello with an all-Black cast except for the title role to considerable effect.

Hel, they even translated Hamlet into Klingon and it still works! And if we spoke in the same way the Tamarians do, about half the language would be Shakespeare!
