OK, we actually already have some of the tech. People are irrational about nuclear power, but that technology has for many years been capable of producing clean, stable reactors with minimal, and far less toxic, waste. Governments chose to use fast breeders because they needed the plutonium for nuclear weapons, but that's not relevant anymore.
People are right in saying that wind and solar farms take up land that should be used for growing food. But why not a compulsory, government-funded, fitting of solar panels to the roof of every building that can handle them? Not to mention requiring them to be fitted to all new builds. We could pay for it by taxing the churches. Hell, we could probably pay for a shedload of things by taxing those parasitic bastards!
But we must also take account of the fact that global warming is only partly a result of human activity. The world has its hotter and cooler cycles naturally, and we are still coming out of the last Ice Age.
We're also radically over-populated. I suspect that will cure itself, though. Covid was a warm-up, the next pandemic will be far more virulent, more contagious, faster-acting and more lethal. in the 1300s, the Black Death killed 20 000 000 in Europe - around a third of the population -but left in its' wake a wave of prosperity due to the need to pay survivors higher wages to do the work the dead couldn't. I expect a Black Death-level global event in the next 50 years or so -it's one of the ways Nature controls population. Of course, a global war could result in a similar cull, but that isn't an acceptable alternative.
What would be acceptable is global population control, but there are far too many cultural barriers, especially in the developing world.
We should stop all this nonsense about healthy eating, exercise, not smoking or drinking booze etc, We have an ageing population and we need to get back to people keeling over from heart attacks in their 50s and 60s, rather than living to their 80s and having to be treated like giant babies!
