OK, let me rephrase (the Dog is biting and I'm not at 100%).
You believe in equality for women or you don't. "I don't know" is the same as saying you don't.
You either believe that the colour of a persons' skin doesn't matter or you believe that it does. "I don't know" is the same as saying that you believe it does.
The nature of the First Cause, if there is one, is unknown and unknowable. But God is not the First Cause. God is a human construct designed to reduce the Universe to a human scale. Now a lot of theists ramble on about immanence and God manifest in Creation or God is love or a being of pure spirit. But once you drill down past the fancy words and the trying to convince themselves, you find that what they actually believe in is a cantankerous old gentleman on a golden throne in the sky. Because in the end, to believe in God you have to make him a person and the only kind of people we know about are us!
If you want to call someone an agnostic because they don't know what the Hell is going on out there, then we're all agnostics. But when somebody says they are agnostic, they mean they aren't sure about the old man in the sky and prefer to fudge the issue and hedge their bets.
I don't believe in the old man in the sky. I also don't believe that Richard Dawkins is always right about everything, so according to the current zeitgeist, I'm not an atheist either. Hence non-theist.
