OK, couple of issues.
First, if the reality is as you say it is, then you wouldn't, indeed couldn't, have written that piece. Because a 'mind' shaped by the drives of the body and genes would have neither the time nor the capacity for anything except the practical business of survival. Nothing else would be needed and those who wasted their time doing anythings else would not be preferred mates and would die out.
Second, nobody has as yet been able to definitively prove or show that all our conscious functions, feelings and thoughts are linked to specific physical processes in the brain or anywhere else.
In other words, we have no idea what the Hell is going on, what consciousness actually is, and what if sny purpose it serves. We may never find out. If we ever do, we might wish we hadn't!
