Oh, I'm very well aware of it. Then again, you must bear in mind that, from the British viewpoint, America, like Australia, was the place we offloaded our undesirables. Criminals, traitors, younger sons and religious fanatics all made their way to America to found the leading families.

As to Australia, I am reminded of the Englishma who, when applying for a tourist visa to Australia, was asked whether he had a criminal record and replied "I didn't know you still needed one!"
