Of course the monarchy does nothing for us. It's not as if it's the only thing that stopped Thatcher going full trump on us, after all! Oh, it was! Well, it's not as if it prevents us from having a Conservative President blocking the legislation of a Lbour Parliament at every turn. Oh, it does!

You - as someone who has studied law -should at least understand the centrality of the institution of the Crown to the British constitution.

By all means replace the Germans, no problem there. But leave the institution in place. We could live with an elected monarchy, but republics are proven to be more trouble than their pretense at democracy and PC modernity are worth.

Or to put it on more direct terms, unless your Head of State and source of authority are apolitical, you're up Shit Creek without a paddle.
