Now here I was thinking The Man from UNCLE was always a bit spoofy/campy. It certainly never took itself as deadly seriously as James Bond, or Danger Man. The feel was more like The Saint, and Roger Moore was seldom known to take anything entirely seriously - apart from Gold, which was a bit of a mess.
