Nobody much is looking at the important question, are they?

On the one hand there are scientists who are finding it more and more possible that there is an intelligent First Cause. If this is true scientific theorising, then the usual scientific process for the testing of hypotheses and accumulation of evidence for or against will follow. If it's just wishful thinking on the part of some of the people involved, it will fail the process, as other hypotheses have.

On the other we have groups of people preaching a series of religions and/or philosophies, all of which are clearly human constructs. Without going into excessive detail, these are all characterised by either an anthropomorphic deity, or an idealised view of how people should behave. Some are the products of sincere thinkers, others are just massive con jobs.

The question nobody likes to ask, in case they don't like the answer, is: "So, what?"

Does an intelligent First Cause exist? I don't know and frankly I don't care! Why? Because it makes not a scrap of difference either way! Because I am not so arrogant or deluded as to think for one moment that the Being who created the Univesre, ex nihilio, or at least started the process that led to the formation of the Universe, did so merely to produce us. The concept is ludicrous.

Such an act would, after all, require considerable effort on the part of the Being involved. To put it another way, a truly perfect, omnipotent, omniscient Creator would have produced a perfect Universe filled with perfect beings. To do anything else would have been impossible for such a Being without sacrificing Their own perfection. As the Universe is flawed and subject to decay and error, so is the Creator, by necessity. Thus I am not inclined to suppose that so powerful a Being went to so much effort just for us. For a race of beings so constitutionally silly that, given a system that makes the entire range of human knowledge available to us with the click of a mouse, we use it to post and watch amusing videos of cats? I think not.

I submit that if there is a Creator, we are the least of Their problems, and thus They should be the least of ours! It's time we concentrated on finding human solutions to human problems, rather than gazing at the stars and hoping for rescue!
