When we lived in hunter-gatherer communities of around 100-200 people at most, everyone was acountable and answerable to, responsible for and reliant on, everyone else. Everyone did their bit, and as a result, the working day was shorter than it's ever been.
Now we live in vast, anonymous blobs called cities, among thousands of strangers, working long hours at jobs which mean little or nothing to us. The ones that force us to work are unaccountable to us, answer to nobody but themselves and feel no responsibility toward anyone. They constantly seek new ways to keep us fragmented so that we have nobody to rely on but them, and they abuse us.
I'm talking about everybody, everywhere.
