It's not quite like that. The Stoic does what it lies within his power to do in order to achieve the best outcome available. So, if the Stoic has no house, but the means to build one, he should build the best house that he can with the means he has, and not worry about being unable to build with bricks if he only has planks. If he can help others by building houses for them he should do so, because that prevents them from falling into bad thoughts and living miserable lives. If there is no means to build a house locally, then go where there are such means, without complaint about having to leave your home. If it is within your power to build a palace, then build one by all means, but only if you are sure it's worth the worry of keeping and maintaining it. You might, after all, be happier with a smaller house.
