It seems to me highly unlikely that a human/ape crossbreed of this type would be possible. Not only are we a different species, but a completely different genus. On the other hand, the idea of creating such a creature - mainly for use as slave labour - has been around for a while. The notion being to create a species as strong and agile as apes, with sufficient intelligence to undertake basic manual labour, but not smart enough to demand anything more than food as a reward.

Current experiments have concentrated on adding human DNA to pigs in order to secure a ready supply of donor organs. Pigs were chosen because of the similarity in size and shape of their organs to those of humans. Recently a transgenic pig kidney was attached to the body of a brain-dead patient (with consent) and worked very well.

However, it may be that parallel research inviolving 3D printing of fully human organs may prove more practical. As may the 'growing' of replacement organs from stem cell tissue.
