It seems to me, as an atheist, that all followers of nearly all faiths are judgemental, either about members of other faiths, or members of their own.Who is conservative, evangelical, orthodox, reform, liberal, fundamental, sunni, shia, zen, not zen, etc. Labels, labels, because everybody needs an ‘us’ and that always creates a ‘them’.
If you must have a religion — and if you need one in this day and age then you have a problem, even if it’s only with breaking bad habits — then I suggest you become a pagan. Out of all the religious groups I’ve encountered, pagans are the only ones willing to talk about their beliefs without proselytising or bad-mouthing others. They don’t demand charitable status, go around knocking on peoples’ doors or demonstrate outside schools, clinics etc. Yes, some pagans do demonstrate because of their beliefs, but that’s because many of them are environmentalists, and they’re demonstrating about that, not religion. You have Wicca, Druidism, Hellenist, Odinist, Kemetic, Celtic and a variety of other groups to choose from, none of whom compete with each other or other faiths, nor are they judgemental. After all, religion is just a lifestyle choice, so why not choose one that fits the way you feel about things?
