Intriguing. I probably will never read the book, as it falls outside my genre preferences and I almost certainly wouldn't enjoy it.

That said, it is pleasant to know that not everyone has forgotten the original nature of the Creature (which actually means 'something that was created'). Out of all the actors who played the role, Robert de Niro came closest to the book - anger and sorrow colliding into madness. But there is much to be said for Karloffs' iconic portrayal; the vague, groping gestures of those large, long-fingered hands and the sadness in the eyes are unforgettable.
