In a weeks’ time, Britain will officially leave the EU, so this article is a timely one. I can only hope that some Remainers over here, as well as those who ardently support the idea of a United States of Europe, read it! If such cultural gulfs and potentially irreconcilable differences exist between regions of what we have all perceived for so long as a single country, how much deeper and less bridgeable are the differences between the nation-states of Europe?
Fracture lines are already developing, one of the latest being the European Court overruling the Spanish courts’ convictions of Catalan Separatist leaders. How long before the EU falls apart, I wonder? Before the USA does, I’d guess!
