I'm not sure I made myself clear. If science finds conclusive evidence of a Creator/First Cause, then that does two things. Firstly, it expands our awareness of what is 'natural' or 'material', beyond the known Universe. Not so odd, as over the centuries science has expanded our knowledge of nature, first to beyond our planet into the solar system, then beyond that to the galaxy, then on to the Universe, so why not another step? Secondly, it changes the Creator from a supernatural being to a natural one, spiritual to material (albeit a different kind of matter).
'God', then becomes just an alien with massive Psyker abilites, kick-ass tech, or both. They also become flawed, mortal and in many senses no different from us. Whither then the Absolute, the Divine Principle, that theism depends upon? Can we, indeed should we, worship a being who, as I say, is in many respects no different from us?
Because in the end, religion is not about seeking enlightenment or transcendence. Exoteric religion is about bowing down before the Perfect, Virtuous Lord of Creation. And about keeping the peasants in line, of course.
