If things go as planned, Boris has no chance. The PCP know the constituencies still like Boris, so they've taken steps. That's what Penny Mordaunt is for. Rishi will get his hundred nominations and Penny will get hers. Plan A is for those two to be in the indicative ballot and for Penny to stand down when she 'loses' it. If Boris does stand and get his hundred nominations, then there'll be a for real vote in the PCP, which Boris will come last in because he's pissed too many Tory MPs off, he'll be dropped from the indicative ballot and the scenario will go as planned.

Boris can only win if it goes to the constituencies with him on the ballot and he can only get that far through a massive volte-face among Tory MPs, which will require more than Rees-Moggs tub-thumping to achieve. The only factor which might throw the plan off is if Tory MPs get the notion that Boris is the only one that could win them the next election.

There is zero to fuck-all chance of an early election because the only way that can happen is if the House of Commons calls for one, and with a Tory majority of 70, that won't happen. There's nothing the public can do. The only person outside Westminster with the power to call a General Election is the King, and he would need to be advised by concerned, competent and non-partisan people that the elected government was no longer acting in accordance with the wishes of the people. Said advice would have to be stark and convincing enough to stand up in court, because it would be challenged. But if the King finds that advice convincing, then he has both the right and the duty to dissolve Parliament.
