I view the hijab in the same way I view a crucifix, a turban, a Star of David or any other religious symbol. With sadness and disappointment.
The debate around the existence of God is dead. Anyone who has been educated in the developed world has learned enough basic science to know that there is no God.
The questions we should be asking are about why people -educated, intelligent people, feel the need to rely on outdated ritual and an imaginary friend. Have you no consciences of your own to tell you to do right by yourselves and others? Are you so unsure of yourself, are your friends and family so unsupportive that you must all rely on a supernatural source of strength?
So I won't be asking anyone about their hijab, or turban, or crucifix. I'll just be wondering why, after so many millennia of human achievement and development and acquired knowledge, so many people still lack faith in themselves. Aren't we better than this? If not, why not?
