I think you have to draw the line between different types. Ggenuine activists, such as David Attenborough, or the King when he was Prince of Wales. People who use a platform and any influence they have to put their case in a reasonable manner and take valid action in their own lives are one thing.
Virtue-signalling wealthy types who do the school run in a Nissan Leaf but go shopping in a Range Rover are another.
But then you get the head-cases who do things to get views on Instagram, go viral on Twitter and just get themselves noticed. They don't really understand the issues, they just choose a cause, make up a name and do something extreme to get themselves noticed.
